Precision Medicine and Pharmacogenomics:
"The Asthma Model”

Presented by:
Eugene R. Bleecker, MD
Professor of Medicine
Co-Director, Division of Pharmacogenomics and
Division of Genetic, Genomic and Precision Medicine
University of Arizona College of Medicine

Variety is the spice of life - which transposed to the world of our colloquium means, it is critical to look at the complex disease field from multiple (and hopefully, complementary) angles. Therefore, it is a true pleasure to welcome to our speaker lineup Gene Bleecker, a physician-scientist whose impressive breadth of expertise spans genomics and medicine with a keen eye on translational approaches. Gene thinks deeply about several of the themes that run throughout our course, particularly the interface between basic biology, genetics, and clinical medicine.. his focus is especially on the phenotypic heterogeneity of complex diseases and the need for accurate phenotyping it entails... these concepts are at the very core of precision medicine, a field that Gene pursued much before the term was even coined and is a cornerstone of complex disease biology...  thus, our speaker champions medicine not as a practice but as a science in which therapies MUST reflect a deep understanding of pathogenetic mechanisms. His talk this Friday will address all these concepts - and more...
