Description: Participants will gain an understanding of the history of animal research and the federal regulations surrounding the use of animal subjects. In addition, the course will explain the role of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and it's responsibilities. There will also be consideration of the harm-benefit analysis that is conducted as part of the approval to use animals in research, as well as the importance of the 3 R's in reducing pain and distress. Finally, the responsibilities of animal researchers will be discussed. Counts toward RCR Certificate.
