Julie Ledford, PhD, Associate Professor of Cellular & Molecular Medicine has accepted a position as Co-Director of the University of Arizona Health Sciences (UAHS) Clinical Translational Sciences (CTS) Graduate Program.

CMM faculty members Maria Czuzak, PhD, and James Proffitt, PhD, were recognized during the 2022 College of Medicine - Tucson's Faculty Award Ceremony. Dr. Czuzak was awarded a 2022 COM-T Mentoring award and Dr. Proffitt received the AMES Excellence in Basic Science Teaching award. Congratulations to both faculty members!

Postdoctoral researcher John Ryniawec, PhD, won second place in the College of Medicine - Tucson's Research Day Shark Tank competition.

Congratulations to Donata Vercelli, MD, who was recently appointed as a Regents Professor. This high honor is reserved for faculty whose contributions merit national and international recognition.

The Romanoski Lab in collaboration with the Kaikkonen Lab at the University of Eastern Finland has published a paper in Genome Research delineating thousands of functional non-coding variants in human endothelial cells. This work is an important step in bridging the gap between genomes and function.

Researchers led by Dr. Vadim Pivniouk have discovered that respiratory bacterial extracts known as OM-85 reduce the ability of the SARS-COV-2 virus to attach to lung cells.

Dr. Carol Gregorio was elected as an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellow. AAAS Council elects members whose “efforts on behalf of the advancement of science, or its applications, are scientifically or socially distinguished.” Dr. Gregorio is being honored “For internationally-recognized contributions toward understanding striated muscle structure, function and disease, using advanced imaging and cell biological approaches.”

Bipin Nair, PhD, has been appointed as an adjunct professor in the Department of Cellular & Molecular Medicine. Dr. Nair is the Dean of Life Sciences in the School of Biotechnology at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University. Dr. Nair was instrumental in the creation of the dual degree program and internship program shared by Amrita University and UArizona’s CMM Department. Read more about Dr. Bipin Nair here.
